It runs in a cloud-based sandbox with access to persistent storage, meaning it can handle workflows that take hours to complete without losing state. That's not a chatbot. That's closer to a digital employee who can be handed a complex project on Monday and deliver finished work on Wednesday.

Amazon Bedrock, which many enterprise companies now use, enables hierarchical multi-agent designs where a lead agent delegates to specialized sub-agents, each with their own tool access and reasoning chains. A single business workflow, say processing insurance claims or qualifying sales leads, might involve a dozen distinct AI models working in coordination.

What's Actually Hard About This

This may sound simple. It isn't. At least, not yet.

Coordination overhead must be considered. Every time there is a hand-off between models, it costs tokens, time, and might introduce errors. A well-designed orchestrated system handles this gracefully. A poorly designed one produces outputs where the seams show, where the research section doesn't align with the analysis section, or where the same information gets repeated three times in different words because the context management wasn't tight enough.

Here's what I think is significant about this moment, beyond the specific technology.

Orchestration is different. It's about building systems that produce better outputs than any individual, human or AI, would produce working alone.
